I finally I went for it. I chopped all my locs off.![]()
Growing my natural locs taught me one great wisdom in life: patience. I was impatience for so long and before embarking on motherhood I chose to grow my locs. Initially I was intimidated by going natural and having short hair. Sometimes I wondered why I was going all the way (locking my hair), but in the end I was patient and my hair grew beautifully. It was good to learn that because getting to my daughter I had to employ that patience.
But before the beginning of 2013 I felt the time was ripe to be fearless and cut all my hair off – I trimmed it back in September 2012.
This year I want a clean fresh start and the only way I was able to put the foot in the right direction was letting go all my locs. I loved my long locs. It was my pride because it took me three years to achieve the shoulder length hair.
Having short natural hair can be intimidating yet it’s liberating because it makes you realise that it’s just hair and it will grow back again. ![]()

DeleteYAAAYY!!! Looks awesome!! I know you feel gooooooood!
ReplyDeleteI cut my hair off back in 2005 to donate, it was the first time I had short hair and it was a shock, but SO EASY, I loved it.
This is the first year in the last 3 years that I HAVEN'T cut all of my hair off, lol! I actually love super short hair, it's so chic and easy to maintain! I think you looks great!
ReplyDeletethanks Christina. I thinks you look great with short.
DeleteI'm new to your blog but I want to say your hair looks FABULOUS! I actually went totally natural (not wearing a wig (which I wore for like 1 1/2 years) or getting my hair straightened which I did before the wig)the end of 2009. I was kind of scared what my boyfriend turned husband would think. But by then I didn't care, I was FREE! For awhile I did struggle because I thought that I would be more attractive with straight hair (Vain, I know!) My husband has never heard so many people give me compliments on my hair. When it starts to grow longer, I cut it back just so that I can easily manage it.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, IT. LOOKS. GREAT!!
thanks Mrs M for stopping by. You look GREAT.
DeleteYou look great!!! What a fabulous picture of a fearless mama!
ReplyDeleteI haven't cut my hair short but I think more about it all the time. Seems so liberating!
oh, thank you so much lady. it's scare at first but then you love it. even though i've cut my air short twice, this is the first time i took the scissors and cut them myself. i want to live the words i chose for myself this year :)
DeleteI've been cutting my hair and keeping it shorter than usual this last year. I think that I'm finally ready to let it grow back out again. At the end of the day it is just hair like you said. But still I think the cutting of hair and trying something new is symbol of courage and strength!
ReplyDeleteYUMMommy, you just wrote what I couldn't find the words to write "... cutting of hair and trying something new is symbol of courage and strength!"
Deletethank you dear :)
It looks great! I big chopped my hair back in May of 2012 and it was suchba good decision for me. It has grown really fast and my hair is much healthier than it was.
ReplyDeleteyou look amazing with your new style hands down!
DeleteGorgeous lady! Thanks for the love on my post today. Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteWow TOI, how liberating. It looks great, love that pic of you in front of the mirror. You are so right, hair is just hair and it will grow back.
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteI love it! I cut my hair short after I had both my kids as a symbol of rejuvenation and new life
ReplyDeletelove this symbolism :)!
DeleteYou look amazing! I cut my hair this time last year. Decided to go natural. Still learning alot about my hair, but like you and the ladies above have said, its so liberating.
ReplyDeleteWowee mama - I say good on you!!!! It looks awesome by the way, short hair really suits you! I had short hair for a couple of years during high school and loved it, but I'm not as brave as I used to be anymore. The last time my hairdresser accidentally cut too much off, I ended up in tears! (silly really, cos - it's only hair!).
ReplyDeleteI just love your hair. Grow it again.
ReplyDeleteI love your twa!!! I've cut my hair short 3 times in my life and I felt liberated each time.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are brave to cut your hair off. I've cut my hair off twice, once when I was 11 and was following my 2 best friends (mine looked awful) and once was unplanned when I asked my mum to trim my hair and she ended up cutting the whole lot off 'by accident'. Let's just say I suit longer hair much better. I think you really suit short hair. I hope you are enjoying the change!

You look gorgeous in that last picture of you in the snow. When I first "went natural" I cut off a lot of my hair as well. I've always had long hair, and I cut my hair to about 3 inches. People thought I was crazy, but I loved it. It was very different for me, and yes, LIBERATING.
